Campeonato Nacional de Velocidade exists since the 60's and until today had the group 5 and rally group 4 and B between 70's and beginnings of 80's, group A specification cars in the 80's, group N in the final of the 80's to 90's, the production cars almost similar to the road going cars in the final of the 90's to 2006 when in 2007 been created the Portuguese Touring Car Championship with the S2000 cars. When in 2011, this championship been extinguished because of the lack of competitors, the GT cars passed to be the major class. Since 2010 the series are organised by Full Eventos as part of the "Racing Weekend" banner.
